BILL

Father Hickman said “Any announcements? Any birthdays, travelers or anniversaries?” Bill nudged me to get up. As we went to the altar, he grabbed my hand, which he never does, as the congregation and Father Hickman said the prayer for wedding anniversaries. At the end of the prayer, Father Hickman said “you may kiss …”. Bill kissed me, which he never does , and was asked how may years we were married?

I responded “32”, Bill said no, “33”. The congregation was in hysteria and I was arguing with him.

Later at home, I realized he was right, I refused to admit it then. The following Sunday Father Hickman said “Any announcements? ” I stood , to Bill’s surprise, faced the congregation and said “Last week Bill was right and I was wrong about our years of marriage”.

My God, the laughter , high fives to Bill and overall testosterone overflow, was joyful. Bill was grinning ear to ear. Happy 38th anniversary Bill!

Bill died 1/6/2020.
